In keeping with CDC recommendations regarding the spread of COVID-19, we are requiring appointments for visitation with adoptable animals. In addition, everyone over the age of 10 must wear a face mask when they enter the building, per state guidelines.
Our trained staff is more than happy to answer any questions you have about our animals. If you find someone you love, the first step is to complete the adoption application below (or in-person at the shelter). You can apply for a specific animal or apply to get pre-approved to streamline the adoption process in the near future. Applications are kept on file for 90 days. Your application will then be reviewed by a staff member. The approval process typically takes up to 48 hours to complete. Once you are approved, you will be contacted to let you know what to expect next. Approvals are non-binding, you can change your mind at any time.
Please note that an approved application does not guarantee adoption and we do not hold animals.
You get your choice of any age. Though puppies and kittens are cute and cuddly, they can be a handful. An older pet may be a better fit for you. For example, adopting an adult dog who’s already house-trained and knows basic cues is often much easier than adopting a puppy, who needs to be trained.
Buying a pet can be very expensive; it could easily cost $500 to $1,000, if not more. Our adoption costs range from $50 to $250. Animals in our care have received vaccines, wormand flea medication, a microchip, and their alteration surgery.
You get tons of love! Adopted animals seem to know that you saved them. An adopted pet is every bit as loving, intelligent and loyal as a purebred pet.
Other Things to Know:
Adopters may only adopt 2 pets within a 30-day period.
We do adopt to out-of-area homes given that the pet is spayed or neutered before crossing county lines, per Virginia state law, and the applicant has physically interacted with the pet.
