FAQ > Lost & Found
Owners who come to the shelter in person can identify their pet and immediately begin the reclaim process. We encourage owners who are missing a pet to visit as often as they can. No one knows your own pet better than you do.
Staff also records Lost and Found Reports, and staff spends a significant amount of time each day trying to match up descriptions and locations between them or the reports and incoming animals. Lost and Found Reports are kept on file and we follow up in case an owner or finder has forgotten to let us know when their pet returned or if they’d like us to stop looking for any other reason. We check classifieds and social media as time allows, and often make connections through word-of-mouth.
While making a Lost or Found Report is an essential step in helping us get pets back to their families, owners can post flyers or classified ads, post to social media, contact local police and Animal Control, and check with their neighbors to spread the word.
We have a listing of Strays in Custody here, HOWEVER it is NOT updated in real-time! Make a Lost/Found Report anyway, and come visit the R-H SPCA to see strays for yourself.
