FAQ > Owner Relinquishment
We strive for a judgement-free environment for owners who must relinquish their pet and hope that interacting with our staff can be an informative and compassionate experience. Our number top priorities are the health and safety of animals and our community.
While we can’t stop someone from lying to us, it’s not in the pet’s best interest to pretend they are a stray. Stray pets require a state-mandated stray hold to see if their owner comes looking for them. At the R-H SPCA, that means a pet may have to wait 5-10 days before it can go up for adoption. For their sake, telling the truth can get them into a new home much sooner.
