FAQ > Lost & Found
File a Found Report immediately. Call 434-5270, or email info@rhspca.org. Include a photo if you can. We will need contact information for you, a thorough description of the pet you found, and details about when/where you found it. We regularly check Lost Reports, classifieds, and social media in an effort to help owners find their missing pets.
Please bring it by the R-H SPCA so we can scan it for a microchip ID and/or take more photos to help us search.
You can choose to wait to find the owner and keep the pet with you once you leave a Found Report with us. Generally, if no owner can be found after a reasonable effort within 30 days, chances are the pet was abandoned to begin with. However, should an owner come forward the finder is likely going to be required to return their pet to them regardless of how much money they have spent on the pet while it was in their care. It’s in the finder’s best interest to surrender the pet, wait out the legal stray hold, and formally adopt. Our staff can walk you through this process.
Should you choose to turn in a stray, you are welcome to also turn in an adoption application at the same time, as well as call and check on the pet during the stray hold. Pets will still need to be reasonably temperamentally sound before we can adopt it out in good conscience, and adoption applicants will still need to go through the review process like any other applicant.
